John Stamos Checks Into Rehab for Substance Abuse

John Stamos checked into a residential treatment facility to seek help for substance abuse, a source confirmed Friday to E! News.

No further details were immediately available but the move comes just shy of a month after he was arrested for an alleged DUI in Beverly Hills. At the time, he wasn't taken to the police station but to a hospital for observation for what appeared to authorities to be a possible medical condition.

"Thanks to everyone for their love &support," the star of Fox's upcoming sitcom "Grandfathered" tweeted the next day. "I'm home &well. Very appreciative of the BHPD &Cedars for their care."

Stamos was then off to Canada for a few days, and upon his return got to tweeting, joining Snapchat and hanging with the cast of Grandfathered.

The "Full House" star, who's set to reprise the iconic role of Uncle Jesse in Netflix's "Fuller House" next year, has not tweeted since June 23.

Stamos famously made headlines in 2007 after making a slurry appearance on an Australian morning show, an embarrassing showing that he later attributed to a bad combination of jet lag and sleeping pills.

"By the time I got to Australia, my body was so out of whack," he told TV Guide about his ill-fated interview, adding that he "took a sleeping pill at five in the morning, Ambien. I did not know what continent I was on."

"I was not drinking," Stamos said. "I did not drink either morning. I do not have an alcohol problem...This is not a pattern."

People was first to report the rehab news Friday.
