Derek Hough to Take “Dancing” Break for Film Role

“Dancing” pro Derek Hough is following his sister Julianne’s lead from the ballroom to the silver screen.

The three-time “Dancing with the Stars” champion will take temporary leave of the ABC hit to shoot a “Romeo & Juliet”-esque film about star-crossed lovers from rival dance clubs, Access Hollywood confirmed.

Hough will star in “Cobu 3D” opposite Korean pop star BoA, Deadline.com first reported.

“Save the Last Dance” scribe Duane Adler wrote “Cobu’s” screenplay and has also signed on to direct the project, according to Deadline.

In a statement to Access, “Dancing with the Stars” executive producer Conrad Green said he expected Hough’s return to TV by fall.

Hough’s sister, Julianne, twice won the reality dancing competition and has taken time off from the show to pursue her country music career and, most recently, to film the upcoming Paramount remake of “Footloose.”
