GOP Throws a Santorum Party While “Daily Show” Is Away

Jon Stewart is incredulous at Rick Santorum's new surge

Spend a week away from politics, and who knows what will happen in the Republican primary race?

That's what Jon Stewart found out Monday, anyway, returning to "The Daily Show" after a week-long break.

"What the hell, America? I leave you alone for one week; I expect you to go a little crazy — maybe have a party, maybe invite Mexico over, draw a penis on Canada's head while it's sleeping, maybe grab a camera crew informing individuals somebody they love died… but making this guy the frontrunner?!"

By "this guy," Stewart meant, of course, Rick Santorum, who's risen sharply in the polls since his triple projected win in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri last week.

It's not the first time Stewart's expressed his incredulity at Santorum's surges.

A while back, he mocked the fickle GOP voting base's interest in him with a memorable, gooey chocolate-box metaphor.
