Jon Gosselin's new gal pal took a not-so-subtle swipe at her squeeze's ex in an interview, suggesting that she won Jon's heart by not being a control freak.
"I'm a huge believer in not controlling someone," Hailey Glassman said in an interview with People. "I'll give my opinion but tell him to do what he wants to do. He said, 'I'm just not used to having an option.' I told him life is about options."
Kate Gosselin developed the control-freak reputation on the hit reality show, "Jon & Kate Plus 8," and was criticized for treating her husband like one of the kids. In many-an-episode, Kate scolded her husband in public for not adhering to her strict instructions. Jon was often seen dragging his feet and hanging his head like a beaten dog.
But there's nothing hang-dog about his appearance-of-late, now that he's snatched up a family friend's daughter, ten years his junior.
"We're always laughing and joking," Glassman said. "We watch movies, play pool and ping pong. We laugh a lot because I beat him at everything."
The two began seeing each other after Jon's marriage cooled down.
Glassman, the daughter of Kate's plastic surgeon and family friend, said the two fell for each other in May, when Jon spent some time at her family's Manhattan apartment.
"He was so strong," she said. "I admired him."
Jon and Kate Gosselin's marital woes began to surface during the show's fifth season, which culminated in their split. Since Kate filed for divorce on June 22, the embattled TV duo has been splitting time at their family estate, taking care of their 8-year-old twins and 5-year-old sextuplets. While Kate has spent the bulk of her time in their Pennsylvania home, Jon has been making business plans with the Ed Hardy clothing designer, spending time in his new Manhattan digs, and enjoying time with his new girlfriend.
Glassman's family has given Gosselin the stamp of approval.
"They love him," says Glassman. "They think of him as part of the family. They think things happen for a reason. The most important thing is if someone fits in with my family. This is perfect. It just fits."
