1/5: And, Action!

Cinema, sips and sounds

MOVIE MADNESS: The last time you theater-hopped, it was to all the rated R movies you could manage in one sitting (Violence! Nudity!). Enjoy your multi-cinema without fearing the usher-with-a-power-trip tonight at the Tower Theater, where they'll be showing four films, including Pedro Almodovar's "All About My Mother" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." Brawls and boobs likely. 6:30-9 P.M.

GREAT WHITE HOPE: Chardonnay gets a bad rap. (It's not its fault you associate it with the "dinner parties" you hosted in your college dorm room.) But if it's what ends up in your Publix cart every week, we suggest heading to the Biltmore Hotel, where the Cellar Club will host "Anything But Chardonnay." The event is pretty self-explanatory: lots of wine tasting that doesn't involve the C-word. 7-8:30 P.M.

'HOOD VIBRATIONS: It takes a long time to find your "usual" neighborhood watering hole. Can't be too divey. Can't be too chi-chi. Preferably something somewhere in the middle - perhaps with a handsome dark wood bar and jazz on Tuesday nights. If you live in South Miami, we've got the perfect spot: Jakes. The classy resto/bar has been a local favorite since we were knee-high to a plastic flamingo, and tonight, just like every Tuesday night, catch some sweet jazz goodness. 7-10 P.M.
