6 Things to Know – Your Top Stories For Monday, October 29

Happy Monday! We hope you had a great weekend. NBC6 has the top six stories you need to know to start the day.

Weatherwise, South Florida is seeing some cool temperatures. Expect highs to reach the mid-80s this afternoon.

No. 1 – The accused mail bomber is expected to go before a federal judge in South Florida today. Cesar Sayoc faces five federal charges and if convicted, could face sentences up to 48 years behind bars.

No. 2. – One of the victims of that attempted bombing, former Attorney General Eric Holder, is in South Florida. The former Attorney General will join Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum at early voting grassroots events in Broward and Miami-Dade counties, including a voting rights round table in Doral.

No. 3 – Investigators are trying to figure out what led to a shooting that left one man dead in Northeast Miami. The shooting happened early this morning in the area of Biscayne Blvd. and Northeast 78th Street. No word yet on any suspects.

No. 4 - Airline officials are investigating what caused a Boeing 737 Max 8 to crash shortly after takeoff in Indonesia. 189 people were aboard the plane, including three children. Rescue officials say they don’t expect to find any survivors.

No. 5 – The Boston Red Sox are your 2018 World Series Champions! The Sox dominated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5 to 1, clinching the series in LA. This is the Sox’s ninth title so far. Official word will come down later today on when the championship parade will be. Tentatively, it’s expected to take place on Wednesday at 11 am.

No. 6 – Today, we’re bragging about another South Florida school. This time, we’re heading to Deerfield Beach Middle School. Don’t miss it today during our midday newscast at 11 a.m.
