6/28: Rolling Stone Fever

Upstairs rock fest, discounted fare and seafood for a cause

SATISFACTION: Are the music legends and their hits like “I Cant Get No Satisfaction” and “ You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” still playing in the back of your head? Appreciation for classic rock is still a modern trend, and what better band to represent that trend than the Rolling Stones? “Upstairs at the Van Dyke Café” features an eclectic mix of funk, jazz, Latin, soul and R&B live performances every night. Tonight atop this quiet café by day, a “Roll the Stones” concert begins at 9 P.M. Party ends at 1 A.M.

BITE IN: You're always looking for new deals, and this new happy hour plans to deliver. The Grill on the Alley has a new take on the term “bar bites.” Forget about peanuts, popcorn and wings and bite into savory “chef bites” that include lamb chops ($8), braised short ribs ($7) and peppered filet medallion ($9). But if that’s just a little too meaty for you, the grill offers more humble bites such as popcorn shrimp, bleu cheese fries, crab cakes, and seared tuna for less than five dollars each. While you eat, sip on premium discounted liquors, beer and wine. Monday–Friday 4 P.M.-8 P.M.

EAT FOR GOOD: You like to eat, and you want to help the oil-slicked gulf. Sure, they may not seem like harmonious interests, but at Area 31, you can satisfy both cravings. The seafood restaurant cares about clean waters and the community, so as part of their efforts, the restaurant’s “We Cook While They Clean” fundraiser donates $1 from every Oyster Primi dish sold to the Gulf Relief Foundation.
