7/18: The Only Question Is, Which Party?

All-star block party, in-the-biz beach party, or a poolside party?

QUICK CLOTHES: Who said vending machines must be limited to frozen treats, chips and soft drinks? Sometimes what you need right now is some shade from Miami’s vexing rays or a new suit to fit your mood. While poolside, the Standard hotel decided, pool-goers should go no further then it’s own backyard for summer essentials. Celebrating its new poolside vending machines filled with board shorts, bikinis and sunglasses by Qucksilver and The Standard, the celebration includes Brazilian BBQ, a mud lounge, ping pong, photobooth, a DJ and more. Party goes from 4 PM – 8 PM. Bring your own suit or buy one on site!

WADE COUNTY: As the new Miami-Wade county worships the man who brought the “big three” in to win, he's focused on charity. Dwyane Wade and Alonzo Mourning will host one of the biggest block parties in Miami at AmericanAirlines before holding court at the five day charity bonanza's all-star game. The Summer Grove, in its 14th year, has raised over $7 million for Alonzo Mourning Charities and Wade’s World Foundation. So come out and enjoy the food, games, prizes and all-star interaction. Block party is free and open from 11 AM – 6 PM. Game starts at 1 PM with tickets starting at $18.

BEACH BUMS: A little competition never hurt anyone, at least not seriously, and it’s certainly fun to watch. As Miamians suffer from World Cup withdrawal, the Seven Tiki Beach Ball Festival provides at least partial relief. Forget international super athletes vying for the a world title, and envision Miami’s own restaurant biz members battling, beach-ball style for “supremacy.” Spectators get in free on the 24th street side of the Gansevoort and enjoy free Seven Tiki Spiced Rum cocktails. Doors open at 3 PM.
