9/11: Fridays Jamaica Us Crazy

The fame, the fight, and the jazz

KINGSTON FOR A DAY: When it comes to fame and fortune, there are those who make it, and those who don't. Come see "The Harder They Come" at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. Ivan Martin, a young up-and-coming singer, heads to Kingston with dreams of becoming a reggae star, but the corrupt, drug-fueled music industry drives him into a fast and furious life as Jamaica's most-wanted outlaw and most-celebrated underground star. 8 P.M.

PROTECT AND SERVE: Everyone knows today is the eighth anniversary of that fateful day. Support our "Heroes in Action" in a different way as they square off in 12 high-powered rounds of boxing at the Hard Rock live. Their opponents? Each other. There's no need to choose sides here, everyone's the hero. Tickets start at $20 for adults, $10 for kids 12 and younger. 7 P.M.

HOT NIGHTS, COOL JAZZ: The weekend's here, and what better way to jazz it up than to go to the Bass Museum of Art on Miami Beach. Listen to great jazz music, sip delicious cocktails, mingle with your friends, and perhaps make some new ones. Beat the summer sizzle and listen to Miami Jazz Collective, all for $10. Is there really any better way to end the workweek? 7-9 P.M.
