9/19: Two Chicks at Once

Dark pop, experimental film and tailgating for a cause

STATE OF THE UNION: Local female dark pop duo The State Of celebrates the release of their first album, "Day of Abandon," with a party tonight at The Awarehouse. The group will also perform, along with special guest musicians and DJs. The $10 entry fee also gets you an open bar sponsored by Mako Vodka. 8 P.M.

THE HEAP HAS SPOKEN: We wanted to be experimental filmmakers once. Then we had to make our first rent payment. Lucky for us, though, Ben Balcom and Josh Weissbach pursued the craft and are taking the finished products on a tour called Heap Us 'Round Our Ruins: An Interstate Film Circuit. Three films in all will be screened, including a doc on Cuban exiles shot on Super 8 and 16 mm. Sweat Records, 8:30 P.M.

FEST IN PEACE: What started out as a birthday party in an abandoned lot for a guy named Dan has turned into a full-fledged tailgate BBQ concert extraordinaire in Bicentennial Park called FestiDan, complete with a charity to which proceeds are donated. Channel your inner frat boy and enjoy such activities as a Slip n Slide, beer pong and kickball. Or just drink and enjoy the live music. Noon-sunset.
