The boy was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center after the shooting happened around 6:45 p.m. in the area of Northwest 60th Street and Northwest 20th Avenue.

Miami-Dade Police officials said a suspect shot the child in the hip from within a vehicle before fleeing.

"Angered by this senseless violence, resulting in the shooting of a teenage boy. It should anger us all - every single time. Our young people deserve better," Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho said in a statement.
