Dorsch Gallery holds supply drive party

Little kids need creative playtime. Sure it might be nice if we could just strap them in front of the television for hours on end and then let them free once they turn eighteen, but in actuality, playtime and art help kids grow into problem-solvers and better people. You’d prefer good people with critical thinking skills on the planet, right? We sure do.

Wynwood’s Dorsch Gallery is holding the International Children’s Art Supply Drive to collect new or barely used art supplies for the little tykes of Escuelita de Nostara in Costa Rica. Once you check out the Web site to see how cute the little buggers are, you’ll definitely want to shower them with paint brushes and glitter.

Clean out your art space and bring unused things like pencils, markers, paper, fabric, paint or bring a gift certificate for an art supply store, and you get in free. It’s $5 if you don’t feel like looking through the closet.

Local favorite folkster Jesse Jackson will be performing and complimentary drinks will be provided by Bacardi. The night is hosted by Sweat Records and independent curator Nina Arias. You can enjoy the Dorsch’s current solo exhibitions with artists Peter Barrett, Michelle Hailey and Amanda Burnham.

The party takes place from 7-10 at the Dorsch, 151 NW 24th Street. The after-party is at Vagabond and is free before 11 p.m. Get over there in time to catch Panic Bomber’s awesome, visually interesting and dance-friendly performance, this time featuring a live horn section.
