South Florida, you can rest easy again: ‘Storm’ the pet kangaroo has been found!

A search that began earlier this week when the animal got loose from his Jupiter Farms home in northern Palm Beach County ended Thursday morning when he was found safely.

NBC affiliate WPTV reports the kangaroo’s owner, Eric Westergard, was called to a home just after 1 a.m. Thursday morning after Storm was spotted in front of a mailbox. Westergard used food to lure his beloved pet safely back to his owner.

“I hooted and hollered when we found him, I'm happy now. He's happy now,” Westergard told the station. “I know he's back in the cage and Avalanche's mate, you know, she saw him immediately and came over to the cage.”

Storm hopped away Monday night from Westergard's home, where he also keeps six other kangaroos and other exotic animals.

Officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission used drones and a K-9 from the Tequesta Police Department as they tracked down the kangaroo.

"As soon as he heard Eric, he froze in place and then all of a sudden Eric just grabbed him and that was it and carried him like a little baby," said neighbor Valerie Gentile.
