2/19: Helping With Hooch

Drink and make a difference tonight

DRINKING FOR A DIFFERENCE: Everyone's favorite part of happy hour is the booze. Now, imagine drinking and doing some good. Tonight at the Gansevoort South Hotel you can join the Melanie Finley Ovarian Cancer Foundation for Cocktails For A Cause. This socially conscious soiree will help raise money for and awareness about the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer with an open bar, hors d'oeuveres, DJs spinning and a silent auction with items like all-inclusive trips and luxury jewelry. Getting a little tipsy never felt so good. 7:30 P.M. Tickets.

JAZZ IT UP: On these cool nights we have been having, you might need a little something to warm you up. Tonight the Bass Museum of Art kicks off their famed winter jazz series, Cool Nights Hot Jazz. The bi-weekly Friday night concert held in the museum's cafe and lounge will feature Miami's most talented local artists like the Mike Orta Quartet and Shelly Berg Trio. Not only is the location and music out of this world, but tickets are $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Did we mention that your ticket price includes complimentary Cafe Bustelo, Grolsch beer and Chilensis wine? 7 P.M.

FUNNY GUY: If there is one thing we learned this week, it's that you might be too fat to fly, but you're never too fat to be funny. One of our favorite funny guys is in town tonight and he isn't one to miss. Lavell Crawford, a "Chelsea Lately" regular, is the kind of guy who turns his near drowning at 10 years old into one of the funniest stories ever told. We're sure after an hour with him tonight at the Miami Improv, there is no doubt he will be your new favorite fat guy. 8:30 P.M.
