What to Know

  • As of Tuesday morning, over 5.2 million of the state’s 13.2 million registered voters had casted their ballots early.
  • Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m.

After months of campaigns and constant ads that have taken over the airways, Tuesday’s Election Day is bringing hundreds of thousands of people from across South Florida to the polls to cast their ballot for state and local races that in many cases are among the closest in the country and where every vote will count.

Voters arrived early at locations across Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe County to cast their ballot if they weren’t able to do so during the two-week early voting period that ended Sunday in most counties across Florida. Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m.

As of Tuesday morning, over 5.2 million of the state’s 13.2 million registered voters had cast their ballots either from early voting or by absentee ballots – with another 1 million mail-in ballots not yet returned.

Over 20 percent of those who have already voted came from South Florida’s two largest counties as 556,347 people in Miami-Dade already cast their ballots while another 473,158 in Broward have already voted.

Miami-Dade Elections Department spokesperson Roberto Rodriguez said between 200,000 and 300,000 people were expected to vote in the county on Tuesday.

Rodriguez added there had been no reports of machines not working.

If you have any issued when voting on Tuesday, NBC 6 and Telemundo 51 have partnered with ProPublica to help eligible voters cast their ballot. For more info, click on this link.
