EPIC Makes Room For London-Based Japanese

To say Chef John Critchley of Area 31 could solely correct the damage done by the December 2009 Legionnaire’s tragedy at the EPIC Hotel would be a dream come true. While Critchley’s seafood paradise overlooking the water has done great things, the addition of another foodie establishment might be just what Kimpton ordered to reclaim its stellar status.

In May, the luxury space makes room for ZUMA. The London-based Japanese resto will inhabit the ground floor of the EPIC, with German-born chef and cofounder Rainer Becker schooling Downtown Miami on the art of Izakaya dining. In addition to the multicultural draw of Miami, “the bay views from the restaurant terrace and the river that runs alongside it, makes it a perfect location,” Rainer said. Boaters will have docking access, a limited perk in the Biscayne Bay area. Much like Fontainebleau’s Hakkasan, ZUMA's opening will be the first US outpost (other locations include London, Hong Kong, Istanbul and Dubai).
