Fort Lauderdale Promotes Interim Police Chief Rick Maglione to Job Permanently

The city of Fort Lauderdale now has a permanent police chief after city officials took the interim tag off current chief Rick Maglione on Tuesday.

Maglione, who has spent over 25 years as a member of the department, rose to the rank of major in 2014 before being named assistant chief the following year. He was named interim chief after former Chief Frank Adderley resigned on December 31st, 2016.

The 49-year-old started in the patrol division for FLPD before working as a narcotics detective and later as a sergeant in the office of internal affairs, among other posts. He graduated from Troy University and the FBI National Academy.

"Rick has done an exemplary job as Interim Chief and I couldn’t think of a better choice to lead the dedicated and professional men and women of our Fort Lauderdale Police Department," Mayor Jack Seiler said in a statement.

"I know Rick will ensure that our neighbors and visitors continue to receive the outstanding law enforcement services they have come to know and expect from our great city," said Seiler.

Maglione’s selection as permanent chief takes effect immediately.
