Locals Have Neon Nail Fever

The contagious trend is everywhere from beauty salons to drugstores

Sure French manicures look elegant and classy and yeah, the black Goth polish was cool and fashionable for a while.

But the summertime trend now? Neon nails.

Rihanna sports it. So does Lauren Conrad. And chances are you’ve seen quite a few hipsters in Miami flaunting their fingers with it.

Now it’s your turn to lighten up with the stand-out shades that run the gamut from eye-blinding mango to hi-lighter yellow to bold pinks and purples.

In Miami Beach, Lace Nail and Beauty Lab owner Anna Elizabeth said, “our most popular colors this summer have been Perky Purple, Flirty Fuchsia and Funky Limelight of the new Essie neon collection.”

In Kendall, Million Dollar Nails manicurist Darlene Platt said everyone from teens to women in their 40s has caught the neon nail fever.

“The most requested is the neon pink, but I’ve had a lot of young girls ask for neon yellow or purple,” said Platt.

While the can’t-miss-me color palette might be a bit daring for novices, Platt advised the easiest way to make the transition is by first applying the polish on your toes where it isn’t as noticeable.

Other wallet friendly shades worth checking out are Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri Nail Color in Lightening at Walgreens, OPI’s No Room For Blues at Ulta and China Glaze’s Neon Orange Knockout at Sally Beauty Supply.

High-end labels such as Chanel have the eye-popping lacquer, too.

Their Robertson Boulevard collection features four shades paying homage to the City of Angels. The quad collection features LA Sunrise, Melrose, Rodeo Drive and LA Sunset.

Whatever polish you choose, just have have fun with it.
