Miami-Dade Gets Proud

Gay Pride is on parade today in Miami Beach with the first-ever city-supported event.

Miami is a cultural melting pot for people of every race, creed and sexual orientation. So, why, then has it been 11 years since its last Gay Pride event?

Today that all changes when the Gay Pride Parade struts down Ocean Drive from fourth to 15th Streets at noon on Saturday. Heading up the festivities are Patti LaBelle and Richie Rich of Heatherette fame. Is it going to be fabulous? You know it.

Forty floats, rainbow-flag shrouded folks and Miami Beach Mayor Matti Bower bring the best of Gay Pride right to the city that embraces it all with open arms.

After the parade, look for the masses to head over to the PROUD Festival and Expo, where more than 80 local businesses wear their pride until 6 p.m. Then head over to the 14th Street Main Stage for eats and tunes from India and Fanni Lu from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m.

After 11 years of being in the closet, this festival has a lot of celebrating to do. Bring your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your best friend and work it.
