Mr. Miami Beach: Art Basel Was “Over the Top”

Michael Aller is such a vocal champion of Miami Beach life, he's even the cheerful voice on the area's 24/7 tourist hotline. What, you thought they gave just anyone the nickname Mr. Miami Beach?

So who better than Aller to ask about this year's Basel extravaganza?

"This year's Art Basel Miami Beach was over the top, it was fabulous in every way," Aller told Niteside.  "It was a team all pulling the wagons forward, and it couldn't have been more perfectly run than it was this year. And the weather was perfect.

He added, "What else in the world could you want?"

As the Tourism and Convention Director and Chief of Protocol for the past 18 years, Aller has made it his business (literally) to know everything and anything Miami Beach. And when it comes to Basel's place here, he likes what he sees.

"We have a city that's very art conscious, and is open for taking on the responsibilities of doing an event this large," Aller explained.  "Where else would you have it than Miami Beach, the sun and fun capital of the world? We're already working on the next one."

Aller may have just hit the big 7-0 last month, but he says there is much more Basel planning in his future as he has no plans to leave his gig anytime soon. Or the Magic City, for that matter.

"Why would I go anyplace else?" he asked and it was hard to think of a good reason why.
