NiteTalk: Peter Fahey & Sneaker Pimps Swing into Grand Central

In a world where the lines between commerce and art have been completely obliterated, it stands to reason that artists’ renditions of goods would be something to celebrate in high style. That’s kinda the bright idea behind Sneaker Pimps, the roving party that uses crazy kicks as a catalyst to bring together some of the most exciting things in sight and sound. On Friday night the wow goes down at Grand Central; so Niteside got founder Peter Fahey to fill us in.

For those who don’t yet know, what exactly is Sneaker Pimps? Sneaker Pimps is a sneaker exhibition displaying up to 1000 pairs of rare, limited and artist collaborated kicks plus a collection of sneaker inspired artwork. We also have live music performances, art installations and a buy-sell-trade sneaker area.

Is there any relation to the same-named band? No, no relation. We just came up with the name when we had the idea to do the event. It seemed like a logical name... showing off our kicks to the masses. Pimpin’ them out so to speak.

Who are the bright minds behind the big idea? That would be me. I started the show in Sydney in 2002.

What have you got on tap for Grand Central? We’ve got performances by Iggy Azalea, Honey Cocaine and a bunch of local up and coming acts.

Will this be the first time this line-up has Sneaker Pimped? We usually change up the music line up in every city, but all of these artists have performed on Sneaker Pimps in the past.

Any other special somethings goin’ down we need to know about? We have a Xbox 360 video game battle going down on the all new Forza Horizon game; the winner gets a super rare pair of kicks, plus people get the chance to check out the Sneaker Pimps x MINI on display.

All in all, what can fans expect to find this Friday night? Sneakers, vendors, art, video games, cars + an incredible music line up!

Sneaker Pimps takes place Friday August 24 at Grand Central. For more information log on here.
