Police ID Man Found Dead in SW Miami-Dade Home

The girlfriend of a man who was found dead in his southwest Miami-Dade home is speaking out as homicide detectives continue to search for clues.

Miami-Dade Police said 63-year-old Evelio Federico Gainza was found dead in his home near Southwest 161st Street and Southwest 141st Avenue early Thursday.

Officials say they received a call to do a welfare check on the home and discovered the body after finding a broken sliding glass door. Police haven't revealed how Gainza died or a possible motive.

Gainza's girlfriend, Rouse Mary Figueredo, said she feels "terrible and desperate" after losing her boyfriend. She said she had been calling him since Tuesday and got worried when he didn't answer.

Some neighbors told NBC 6 that they saw police in front of the house a few days ago and that there was a lot of family drama.

"Like, two days ago cops came here before this incident happened and I know they came through the back with rifles and everything," said one neighbor, who didn't want to be identified. "Since that happened that day and the next day he’s dead, like wow. There’s something fishy there, you know. Very fishy."

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
