Protesters gathered outside of Sen. Marco Rubio’s office Thursday to support Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, the accuser who alleges that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her.
“Women vote, survivors vote,” was the chant heard outside of Rubio’s office in Miami.
Both Ford and Kavanaugh testified at a Senate hearing Thursday.
“We urge everybody on both sides to vote against [Kavanugh],” said a protester outside Rubio’s office. “This is a vote about us, about women, and about many other things.”
Rubio supported Kavanaugh’s nomination when President Trump appointed him earlier this year.
“We’re ashamed. We’re afraid,” said another protester. “This stops now. It makes a difference. We believe. We will be heard. We will vote.”
Sen. Rubio posted a response to protesters to today’s Senate hearing, saying, “All the norms that once governed our politics and public discourse are gone. Today, my colleagues on the Judiciary Committee, on both sides, have an opportunity to set a better example for our country by treating Dr. Ford and Judge Kavanaugh with respect and listening without prejudgement.”
Dr. Ford, a California psychology professor is accusing Kavanaugh of attempting to rape her when they were teenagers. Two other women have since come forward, accusing Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct. Kavanaugh has repeatedly denied all allegations, saying he’d never even heard of the latest accuser and calling her accusations “ridiculous and from the Twilight Zone.”
