Sophie Moon Advocates For Artists' Collective: Miami Isn't All About Partying

Sophie Moon hopes to awaken Miami's conscious artistic soul.

Amid the transient celebs, booze and bright lights, real Miami artists find themselves without a haven, said Moon.

"There are a lot of events going on in Miami that relates to partying, but Miami isn't all about the superficial stuff," said Moon late Monday night. "There are real people and real conscious artists who need to be heard."

So for the past year or so Moon and her concious collective have gathered inside Jazid for Open Mind Mondays. The Washington Avenue dive is a local treasure of sorts, offering a temporary respite from the plastic and pretense Moon and her following hope to deviate from.

Late Monday night, a contingent of local acts performed. It's all part of Moon's vision for stirring Miami's artistic pulse.

"Cities like L.A. and New York already have a thriving conscious art scene," said Moon. "It's really time we get the movement started in Miami."
