Suspicious Package Found at Miami Beach Post Office Deemed Safe

Miami Beach Police say a suspicious package found at a post office that shut down one roadway and a nearby school Monday morning has been deemed safe.

Authorities responded to the post office in the area of 71st Street and Carlyle Avenue after the package was found just before 9 a.m.

The Miami-Dade Police bomb squad responded and officials closed the area surrounding the post office including 71st Street between Abbott and Dickens Avenues as well as the Happy Kids Preschool, which was placed on lockdown.

All USPS employees were evacuated from the building before authorities "rendered the package safe," police said.

Officials have not released any additional information at this time.
