Homicide detectives are investigating after a University of Miami student was found killed in his off-campus apartment on Sunday, officials said.
The body of 23-year-old Yasser Talal Ibrahim Abualfaraj was found Sunday afternoon in his apartment in the 6500 block of Santona Street, Miami-Dade Police said.
Abualfaraj was found with multiple signs of trauma by his roommate, officials said. No other details were released.
"It was actually pretty shocking for us, we're just trying to figure out what's going on," neighbor Katie Oswald said.
UM officials said Abualfaraj, who was from Saudi Arabia, was a third year architecture student.
"The University is working closely with law enforcement officials as the investigation continues," UM said in a statement. "The University is deeply saddened by this tragic news, and has made grief counselors and support staff available to the UM community through the Counseling Center."
Authorities are asking anyone with information to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Tipsters may be eligible for a reward up to $3,000 if the tip leads to the arrest of the subject(s).
