Woman Who Killed Elderly Man in Hialeah Hit-and-Run Arrested: Police

Police say they've arrested a woman who fled the scene after she struck and killed an elderly man in Hialeah while behind the wheel of a stolen car.

Maydelis Pulido, 23, was arrested early Thursday on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death in the Tuesday crash that killed 79-year-old Orlando Quiala, Hialeah Police officials said.

Pulido was driving a stolen Red 2007 Toyota Corolla south on East 4th Avenue approaching East 17th Street when she made a left turn and struck Quiala as he was crossing the street, police said.

She fled the scene, leaving Quiala lying on the road critically injured and fighting for his life, officials said. He was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital where he later died.

Police said an anonymous tip that was corroborated by a confidential informant led them to Pulido and the car. Detectives worked "diligently day and night following every lead possible," officials said in a statement.

Pulido was booked into jail where she being held on $10,000 bond Thursday, records showed. Attorney information wasn't available.
