A 13-year-old Miami girl is facing a grand theft auto charge after police say she stole her aunt's car and took three young children with her.

According to the affidavit, Ida Johnson went to visit her sister in the 1100 block of Northwest 106th Street and left her three kids in the care of Jackson's 17-year-old sister while she went to pick up food with Jackson's mother.

While the adults were gone, Jackson grabbed the keys to the car and took off with the kids, the affidavit said. When Johnson returned, she realized the kids and car were gone and called police to report the vehicle as stolen, the affidavit said.

The car was spotted several blocks away, in the area of 63rd Street and Northwest 13th Avenue, where an officer pulled it over and took Jackson into custody.

The children weren't injured, but Johnson was adamant about pressing charges, the affidavit said.

When police questioned Jackson, she said she wanted to go to the store with her friend and she took the kids because her sister was sleeping, the affidavit said.

She said she was sorry for what she did but was trying to get home before her aunt and mother arrived, the affidavit said.

Jackson was booked into the juvenile assessment center. It's unknown whether she has an attorney.
