2 Teaching Aides, 3 Students Charged After Fight at Central Florida School

Two teaching aides and three students face charges after a classroom fight in central Florida.

The fight started Jan. 9 in a classroom for emotionally disturbed students at Discovery Intermediate School in Kissimmee.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office says chairs were thrown during the brawl, and students' videos that captured the fight showed one student kicking another.

Authorities say two teaching aides have been charged with child neglect because they failed to stop the fight or call for assistance, even though they had access to phones and radios.

Three students have been charged with aggravated battery.

School district officials say the aides have been removed from the classroom and may be suspended without pay. A sheriff's office spokeswoman says neither of the aides is cooperating with investigators.
