Four suspects are in custody after a pair of police chases of stolen cars that began in Key Biscayne Tuesday morning.
The incident began around 3 a.m. when officers spotted a suspicious vehicle, a stolen Porsche, speed off on Crandon Boulevard and a pursuit ensued, Key Biscayne Police Chief Charles Press said.
Around the same time, a black Honda hit the rear of a police lieutenant's police cruiser and took off heading northbound on I-95, Press said.
A police helicopter spotted the Honda in northeast Miami-Dade and officers were able to take the driver into custody, Press said. The Honda, which had a gun inside, is also believed to be stolen, Press said.
Officers were also able to catch up to the Porsche and the two females inside were taken into custody, Press said.
Two other suspects were believed to have bailed out of one of the cars, and one of them was taken into custody after he was spotted by a Key Biscayne officer, Press said.
All of the suspects, who appear to be juveniles, were in custody and were being questioned Tuesday morning, Press said. None of the officers were injured.
"They go from affluent communities to affluent communities. It is a crime of opportunity," Press said.
