HOUSE APPROVES BILL TO SPEED UP CAPITAL PUNISHMENT
 
The Florida House on Thursday passed a bill that would speed up the state's capital punishment process. The House passed the Timely Justice Act of 2013 by a vote of 84-34. The bill goes to the Senate, where a similar measure had been on the agenda Thursday. That chamber adjourned for the day without taking action.
 
FLORIDA SENATE UNANIMOUSLY PASSES BILL TO MAKE WINE KEGS AVAILABLE
 
Wine kegs would be available in Florida for the first time under a bill that has cleared the Legislature. The bill won final passage from the Senate on a 36-0 vote Thursday. It now goes to Gov. Rick Scott.
 
MAN GETS DEATH SENTENCE FOR OLD LADY'S MURDER
 
A South Florida man was sentenced to death Thursday for fatally stabbing an elderly woman in her Little Havana apartment. A Miami-Dade judge followed a jury's 7-5 recommendation in sentencing 40-year-old Victor Guzman. He was convicted last year of first-degree murder.
 
HOUSE PASSES BILL ON VOTER EMAILS
 
The House has passed a bill that would exempt voters' email addresses from the state's public records law if they are collected through voter registration.  Proponents say releasing the email addresses could have led to identity theft and voter fraud.
 
ARMY COL. RETIRES AFTER 46 YEARS OF SERVICE
 
Army Col. Warner "Rocky" Farr is calling it a career, retiring after 46 years of service that began with the Vietnam War. He was honored Thursday at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS DAY

Members of Miami’s faith based community will be participating in “Congregational Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Awareness Day” activities taking place at the Miami-Dade Coordinated Victims Assistance Center in Miami. The event is geared towards raising awareness among members of the clergy on domestic violence and human trafficking.
