FLORIDA BACKS LAWSUIT OVER FLOOD INSURANCE HIKES
 
Florida is supporting the state of Mississippi in a lawsuit over flood insurance rates. Gov. Rick Scott and Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Thursday that the state would file a "friend of the court" brief that backs Mississippi's lawsuit against the federal government. Florida is not filing its own lawsuit.
 
MYSTERY WITNESS EXPECTED IN BOULIS MURDER TRIAL
 
A mystery witness permitted to use a false name is expected to testify in the trial of two men accused in the 2007 killing of South Florida businessman Konstantinos "Gus" Boulis. Prosecutors wouldn't say much more about the witness scheduled to take the stand Friday, but photographers aren't being permitted to take the witness' picture.
 
DNA LINKS OHIO INMATE TO 2005 FLORIDA SLAYING
 
St. Petersburg Police say they have caught the man they believe killed a homeless woman eight years ago. Officials said Thursday that 31-year-old Raymond Samuels will be booked into the Pinellas County Jail soon. He is being extradited from Ohio, where he has been serving a prison sentence since 2006 for attempted murder and kidnapping.
 
EVERGLADES WATER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT APPROVED
 
The state agency overseeing Everglades restoration has approved a contract to start construction on a water quality improvement project south of Lake Okeechobee. The chairman of the South Florida Water Management District's governing board said Thursday that the new storage site will significantly improve the agency's ability to remove pollutants from water flowing into the Everglades.
 
CAR-SHARES COME TO DOWNTOWN ORLANDO
 
Transportation options are expanding for residents of downtown Orlando. Officials this week unveiled a car-share program on the same day that potential customers got a sneak peak of the SunRail commuter trains. Under the car-share program operated by Hertz, Orlando residents can rent cars on an hourly basis. Rates start around $8 an hour depending on the vehicle.

VIRGINIA AUTHORITIES SEARCHING FOR MISSING PLANE FROM FORT LAUDERDALE

Authorities were searching for a missing Cessna plane from South Florida that never made it to its destination in Virginia on Thursday, Virginia news outlets reported. The plane departed from Fort Lauderdale headed for Hampton Roads Executive Airport in Chesapeake, Virginia.
