Family and friends said their final goodbyes Monday to the 10-year-old boy who died after he was shot during a robbery at his parents' Miami-Dade nail salon.
The funeral mass for Aaron Vu was held at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church at 5601 South Flamingo Road in Southwest Ranches.
Hundreds attended the ceremony, which was mostly translated into Vietnamese for Vu's family. His father, Hai Vu, still healing from the shooting, attended in a wheelchair.
The burial followed at Hollywood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hollywood.
Mourners came together Sunday for a visitation and service for the boy who died in the Nov. 22 incident at the nail salon at 14832 Northwest 7th Avenue.
"He'll come and entertain the clients. He'll dance for us. He wll play his recorder. He is just an amazing child," said Latara Deshazior, a family friend.
"Very playful, very nice. He would say hello to everybody. We just touch his little cheek, so nice," said Jasmine Barclay, another friend.
Hai Vu broke down in tears as he watched a slide show with pictures of his son at Sunday's service.
"Thank you very much and my family thanks you," he told the mourners as he wore a sling on his arm for his injuries.
Mourner Teresa Simon said on gospel read during the service hit home for her.
"The Lord said suffer the little children to come on to me, you know, and they will go to heaven becasue they have done no wrong so we have to take that home," Simon said.
Police say two armed men barged into the nail salon demanding money and valuables, and opened fire as they fled the store. Aaron Vu was shot and died from his injuries. Hai Vu, 42, was also shot and has been recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Days after the shooting, Anthawn Ragan Jr., 19, was arrested and charged in the crime. A second suspect remains at large.
Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
