Athletic Director Wanted for Sex Assault on Young Girl Arrested

Fugitive wanted for alleged sex assault on 12-year-old caught

A Miami private school athletic director who was wanted in connection with the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl has been arrested, authorities said Thursday.

Paul Michael Mira, 29, was arrested Monday in Polk County on two counts of lewd and lascivious battery of a child, according to Miami-Dade Police.

Mira was employed as the athletic director of Archimedean Middle and Upper Conservatory in Miami where he allegedly used his position to engage in the unlawful conduct, police said.

Police said Mira had gone missing last month as their Special Victims Bureau began an investigation into the alleged assaults. Mira had told relatives he'd commit suicide before he could be taken into custody, authorities said.

Archimedean suspended Mira pending the outcome of the investigation.

Miami-Dade Police said it was unknown when Mira would be extradited from Polk to Miami-Dade.
