BSO Honors Homeless Men Who Helped Deputy Nab Robbery Suspect

Three men who helped deputy arrest suspect at McDonald's honored

The Broward Sheriff's Office took time Wednesday to honor three homeless men who helped one of their deputies nab a robbery suspect earlier this month.

James Finch, Jose Ramos, and Carmello Maldonado were presented with new bikes, a Publix gift card, and bookbags.

All three jumped into a brawl involving robbery suspect Patrick Davis and Deputy Kevin Meyer at a Pompano Beach McDonald's last Saturday.

"It wasn't really a conscious thought," said Finch. "Just looked for a chance to get in there and tried to help."

"He was very strong, very strong," remembered Ramos. "But I got a hold of his two legs, and I wouldn't let him move."

The men told NBC 6 their main concern was keeping Davis away from Meyer's firearm, which they did. Maldonado said he would do all over again, if he had to.

Despite their hero status, Finch said the real heroes are the men and women of law enforcement.

"Officer Meyer, when we left the station, he was filling out reports and he's expected to go back out there, as all of them are," said Finch. "We get to leave."
