Babies Born in South Florida Minutes After New Year Begins

Babies welcomed into world in South Florida minutes after calender turns to 2013

Millions counted down to 2013 at midnight on Monday, but at Chris Evert Children's Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Jessica Wilson was waiting for the time to start pushing.

“I was watching the clock. I was making sure that she didn't come until after 12,” Wilson said. “When I saw that clock hit 12, I started pushing harder, faster.”

Wilson's daughter, Khloie Kemp, was the first baby born this year in South Florida coming into the world at 12:02 a.m.

Wilson credits her mom for making her wait. If not, little Khloie would've been the last baby born, last year.

Five minutes later in Miramar, Micielo was born at Memorial Hospital Miramar.

People rang in the year all over South Florida by adding one to their family - like Sara who was born around 1:30 a.m. at Jackson South.

The race to have the first baby is something all hospitals share enthusiasm for, and it’s something Wilson and her mother are proud to say they were a part of.
