Bird watching enthusiasts are flocking to the Florida Keys this week to celebrate the fall bird migration.
The six-day Florida Keys Birding and Wildlife Festival continues through Sunday with events from Key Largo to Key West.
Festival coordinator Kristie Killam tells the Key West Citizen that the island chain is the last stop for raptors and songbirds flying to their winter destinations.
Activities include guided wildlife walks, photography workshops and a wildlife fair.
The Key West Wildlife Center is particularly busy at this time of year helping young birds who get dehydrated on their first migration. Florida Keys Hawkwatch documents 18 species of birds of prey and more than 120 species of wading birds migrating through the Keys in the fall.
