Brazen Hardware Store Heist Caught on Video in Southwest Miami-Dade

Video catches robber break into store through air vent

Police are investigating after a group of thieves were caught on video using an air vent to break into a hardware store in southwest Miami-Dade Sunday night.

The break in happened around 10 p.m. at Equipment Sales of South Florida at 12821 Southwest 134th Court when one of the suspects broke in through the vent and used a bolt cutters to open the back door to let in two other suspects.

Surveillance video shows the thief drop into the store from the ceiling before the suspects race through the store loading up stolen goods in a wheelbarrow.

Owner Luis Meurice said the heist took between three and four minutes and the group took off with hundreds of dollars worth of equipment.

"They took about 40-50 pieces off the walls, chain saws, blowers that type of law care equipment," Meurice said.

Meurice said the store wasn't even open for business and was expected to open next week.

Miami-Dade Police are investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
