Man charged with assaulting teens ordered held on $250,000 bond

The man arrested in the sexual assault of two teen girls at a Wilton Manors emergency shelter made his first appearance in court Tuesday where he was ordered held on $250,000 bond.

Brian Denby, 30, was arrested Monday on three counts of of lewd and lascivious battery on a person between 12 and 15 years old and two counts of lewd or lascivious exhibition in the Jan. 7 incident at Kids in Distress, Wilton Manors Police said.

Federal agents and Wilton Manors Police took Denby into custody at the Port of Miami after they discovered he had left on a cruise ship on Friday, police said.

Police say at least four people saw the suspect sexually assault the girls, who were staying at the shelter. Last week, Kids in Distress CEO Mark Dhooge said the organization had never had an incident like this and said two employees at the shelter were fired for lack of supervision.

Denby made a full confession and corroborated statements made by the victims and witnesses, police said.

It was unknown whether Denby had an attorney.
