Ayesha Olivia Niles was charged as an adult Thursday

The British teen arrested at Miami International Airport after authorities say they  found 30 pounds of cocaine in her suitcase was charged as an adult on Thursday.

Ayesha Olivia Niles, who turned 18 years old  three days after her arrest, arrived in Miami on Oct. 21 on a flight from Jamaica.

Federal agents said they found the drugs stuffed into 24 boxes of cake mix in her suitcase while she was going through customs.

Niles claimed she didn't know what the substance was but said “she suspected that the activity she was involved in was suspicious but she did not question it," according to a Miami-Dade Police arrest report.

Miami-Dade Police Maj. Charles Nanney said it's rare to find people transporting such a large amount of drugs at the airport, especially a young girl.

She faces charges of trafficking cocaine and importation of a controlled substance, according to The Miami Herald.

Her next hearing is set for Nov. 7.

Her attorney's name wasn't immediately known.
