Burger King Employees Nab Brazen Drive-Thru Robber

Employees wrestle with would-be robber who jumped through window at Fort Lauderdale fast food eatery

A would-be robber who leapt through the drive-thru window of a Fort Lauderdale Burger King in a desperate attempt at a cash register didn't count on the restaurant's employees taking him down.

The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. Monday at the fast food restaurant at 666 West Broward Boulevard, according to Fort Lauderdale Police Spokesman Travis Mandell.

Mandell said 31-year-old Edwin Walker waited for a customer to pull up to the drive-thru window before he jumped on the hood of the customer's car and dove into the restaurant through the drive-thru window.

Walker shoved the woman working the drive-thru window aside and started pillaging the open cash register before he tried to exit back out the drive-thru window with some cash, Mandell said.

But the employee wasn't about to let Walker get away, and she grabbed his shirt and refused to let him go, Mandell said. Other employees jumped in and were able to wrestle Walker to the ground and hold him until officers arrived.

The incident was captured on the store's surveillance cameras.

Walker, from Fort Lauderdale, was taken into custody and charged with one count of strong arm robbery. He was being held Tuesday on $10,000 bond and it was unknown whether he has an attorney.
