Car Slams Into Oakland Park Restaurant

Car drives through front window of restaurant, two minor injuries

An Oakland Park restaurant opened early Tuesday morning when a car drove through the front entrance, officials said.

The incident happened at M&S Best Tropical Restaurant at 3754 N. Andrews Avenue when a driver parked in front of the business accidentally put the car into reverse instead of drive.

Oakland Park Fire Rescue spokesman David Rafter said the car accidentally backed into the structure, plowing through the front window and going completely into the building.

The store's surveillance video caught the car bursting through the restaurant around 7:30 a.m.

Nobody was inside the restaurant at the time of the crash but two people who were in the car were treated for minor injuries and transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution, Rafter said.

Co-owner Solange Saintil was in the kitchen and didn't realize the explosive sound came from just a few feet away.

"I think something happen from the TV," said Saintil.

"I'm so happy nobody died," said co-owner and husband Moses Saintil. "If nobody die I said thank God we safe."

The family estimates to lose at least $1,000 a day while it makes repairs, but said they're thankful they weren't open for business at the time of the crash. The accident happened 30 minutes before their doors would have opened.

It's unknown whether the driver will get any citations for property damage.
