Wandering Miami-Dade Boy Reunited With Mom

Police investigating after child found in the area of Southwest 137th Avenue and Southwest 270th Street

A young boy found wandering a Miami-Dade street Monday morning has been reunited with his mother.

Miami-Dade Police said the child was found in the area of Southwest 137th Avenue and Southwest 270th Street around 7 a.m.

The boy had been placed into the custody of the Department of Children and Families and around 2 p.m., his mother arrived at DCF headquarters. She refused to comment to reporters.

Police said the boy, whose name is Jesiah, told them he was three years old. He is about two and a half feet tall and weighs about 40 pounds. He was wearing a yellow collared shirt with blue and white stripes, jeans and no shoes, police said.

A DCF spokeswoman said the boy was supposed to be in the care of a family member but apparently there was some type of mistake. Authorities will check the house to make sure it's safe and they will be talking to the relative who was supposed to be responsible for the child.
