City of Miami Lifts Police Officer Hiring Freeze

Over 50 new officers to be added to force after hiring freeze lifted

The City of Miami is looking for some new police recruits after a two-year hiring freeze was lifted.

The city announced Thursday that about 55 vacancies will now be open after City Manager Johnny Martinez lifted the freeze on Oct. 20, according to the Miami Herald.

Some of the new vacancies will be filled by police officers already state certified, with other jobs going to new recruits, who will receive six months of training.

For the first round of hiring, the city has requested to hire 21 more officers and ten recruits. The department will also be promoting current officers to other positions.

New applicants will have to be patient. The city already has lists of recruit applicants dating back to 2008 and 2009, who will get first priority if they're still interested.
