Convicted Jimmy Ryce Killer Files Appeal With US Supreme Court

Juan Carlos Chavez, 46, is scheduled to die by lethal injection next Wednesday.

The Miami-Dade man convicted of kidnapping, raping and murdering 9-year-old Jimmy Ryce in 1995 has filed an appeal with the United State Supreme Court to stay his execution.

Juan Carlos Chavez, 46, is scheduled to die by lethal injection next Wednesday.

Final appeals filed with the Florida Supreme Court were rejected last month. Chavez tried to raise questions about Florida's lethal injections procedures and was seeking public records to bolster his case, but the high court said the arguments mirrored objections raised by another death row inmate.

The Ryce family declined to comment on the latest appeal.
