Coral Gables Courthouse to Reopen Thursday

Mystery illnesses shut down courthouse for two weeks

The Coral Gables courthouse is scheduled to reopen Thursday, two weeks after a mysterious illness affected several employees.

Seven workers were taken to the hospital and over 30 others evacuated from the building at 3100 Ponce De Leon Boulevard after they became ill on Oct. 20.

The courthouse had been fumigated for termites earlier in the month, but no traces of the fumigant were found, officials said.

Officials have spent the past two weeks trying to determine what caused the illnesses but haven't said what it was, only saying they'd performed "environmental testing."

Judges and court staff had been taken to alternate locations to continue to hear cases, but now all hearings will resume at the building beginning Thursday.
