Davie Woman Faces DUI After Crash With Five Kids in Backseat

Summer Cristlieb told police she was driving only a short distance and "thought it would be fine"

A Davie woman faces DUI and child neglect charges after piling five children into her backseat and getting into a car accident.

Summer Christlieb, 33, confessed to "drinking a little wine" at her son's birthday party Wednesday night, according to the police report, but told arresting officers that she was driving only a short distance and thought she would be fine.

"It's not a pretty picture, you know?" a judge told Christlieb at a brief bond court appearance Thursday, at which a visibly distressed Christlieb appeared to fight back tears.

Though there were five children and only three seatbelts in the backseat of Christlieb's car, no one was seriously injured in the crash near the intersection of Griffen Road and University Drive.

David Police Department officers responding to the crash reported the children were "sitting on top of each other" in the back of the car and Christlieb had "glassy, bloodshot" eyes.

After failing a field sobriety test, she was arrested.

Free on bond, Christlieb is charged with five counts of child neglect, one count of driving under the influence, and failure to yield the right-of-way during a left turn.

It was not immediately known if she had an attorney.
