Several Dead Cats Found in Miami Beach

Police investigating sickening discovery in Miami Beach

Miami Beach Police are investigating after five cats - four dead and one that was later euthanized - were found in a city parking lot Monday.

The cats were found in the parking lot in the area of Bay Road and 18th Street by a city employee, Miami Police spokesman Juan Sanchez said.

The employee gathered the cats and put them in a bag before calling police.

Four of the cats were dead and the fifth was taken to a nearby animal hospital where it was later euthanized, Sanchez said.

A necropsy will be performed to determine if there was foul play, Sanchez said.

"It does seem suspicious," Miami-Dade Animal Services spokeswoman Kathy Labrada said. "All of the cats are reported to have blood coming out of their mouths and rectums, which is consistent with rat poison."

Labrada said tests could take as long as a week.

The news comes just a few months after 10 cats were found dead in the Hammocks under suspicious circumstances.

Three other cats were found in the same area and later had to be euthanized. Labrada said poisoning may have been the cause of the Hammocks cats' deaths.
