Digital Access Campaign Bringing Free Computers, Internet to Low-Income Families in Little Havana

Kiwanis Club, Imaginate Foundation, Amscot Financial and Comcast team up for project

The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, Comcast and rapper Pitbull's Imaginate Foundation are teaming up to give free computers and internet access to low-income homes.

The Digital Access Campaign, which kicked off Thursday, will allow students to do their homework and access school portals and assignments from the comfort of their own homes.

For the first phase of the program, 60 families with children attending San Juan Bosco Learning Center, Auburndale, Citrus Grove, Comstock, Olinda and Shadowlawn Elementary schools will be awarded a computer and one full year of internet service.

The program is open to families with at least one child receiving free or reduced price lunches.

The second phase of the program will include a new after-school enrichment program and technology center at Lummus Park in Little Havana.

"Technology is crucial to every community throughout the state", said Henry Jimenez, President of the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana. "It improves public safety, education and assists in economic development."

The program is being made possible by Amscot Financial and Comcast, parent company of NBC.
