Miami Dolphins DE Dion Jordan has been relatively quiet during the first year of his NFL career, but he could not resist taking a verbal shot at Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck, whose team hosts the Dolphins on Sunday.
Jordan, who faced Luck several times in college at the University of Oregon (Luck attended Oregon's Pac-12 rival Stanford University) pointed out Wednesday that he has never lost to Luck, and does not expect that trend to change now that he is in the NFL.
"Yeah, me and Luck know each other pretty well," Jordan told the Miami Herald. "I never lost to Andrew Luck. I don't plan on it."
Strong words from a player who is not even a starter despite being the third pick in last spring's NFL Draft. Jordan was also quick to praise Luck, however.
"You could tell the difference between him and a lot of other quarterbacks [during his college days]," Jordan said. "He controlled the things that went on, as far as the offense. He made big plays. You were able to tell he had a bright future ahead of him."
Luck was the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft after breaking countless Stanford and Pac-12 records, leading the Cardinal to two BCS bowls, and earning 2 All-American selections, among other awards. He was selected to the Pro Bowl after his rookie season, when he helped the Colts improve from 2-14 in 2011 to 11-5 (with a playoff berth).
When told about Jordan's comments, Luck declined to make any predictions of his own. "I try forget most of my match-ups against Oregon, so thanks for bringing those up,” Luck told the Herald.
Of Jordan, Luck said, "I just remember [he's] fast, athletic, eats up space and physical. A lot of respect for him as a player."

Jordan's confidence may seem refreshing to Dolphins fans, but take note: Luck torched Miami last season in a 23-20 Colts win. He completed 30 of 48 passes for 433 yards and 2 touchdowns (with no interceptions).
Luck and the Indianapolis offense will be a huge test for Miami's revamped defense, one which could inspire Jordan to keep quiet ahead of future match-ups if he is not careful.
